‘Your Love is Better Than Life’

‘Your Love is Better Than Life’

S Maria Louise Edwards

On beautiful, sunny Saturday, August 16, at Immaculate Conception Convent in Lodi, NJ, S Maria Louise Edwards made her first profession of vows. Theme for the Eucharistic liturgy was “Your Love Is Better Than Life,” from Psalm 63.

Sisters from across the province, family, and friends were in attendance. Marilena Tesoro, head of school, Holy Name of Mary College School, also flew in from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, where Sister Maria Louise did her apostolic experience and has been assigned as Mission Integration Coordinator and Campus Minister for the upcoming school year.

his homily, Father Mancini emphasized that in her profession of the evangelical counsels and commitment to the Felician Sisters, Sister Maria Louise would be living out a profound and stronger commitment to her baptismal call than she had ever lived in her life. He also made it very clear that the Rite of First Profession spoke of the incredible love contained in Sister Maria Louise’s heart for her Savior, and that his words were only a complement to them. He told the assembly, “There may be challenges and struggles ahead. If you uproot yourself when you face your first problem, you’ll never grow. A flower cannot bloom unless it stays in the sun and in the rain.”

The Rite of Profession followed the homily. SM Christopher Moore, provincial minister, received the vows, and S Judith Marie Blizzard, director of formation, and SM Jeanine Morozovich, director of novices, officially witnessed them.

During the meal, Sister Maria Louise graced her guests with a rendition of a song that was her final assignment for her vows class as a novice. The words beautifully emphasized her spousal love for Jesus. After many hugs and photos, she attended a party hosted by her family.

Sister Maria Louise expressed her gratitude sincerely for all those who supported her on her vocation journey, especially her family and her sisters.

“Thank you to all my Felician Sisters who have prayed with me, and at times had just a smile, hug, or encouraging word. I am privileged to be a part of all that God is doing in and through us. Truly, the Holy Spirit has given me sisters. I have such hope for the future–of greater things to come.”
